Individuals Receiving Support Services Who Lease Directly from the Landlord

ANNUAL REVIEW

Individuals who receive residential services from JCDS lease directly from their landlord, meaning that their home is rented to them, and not to an agency.
Being part of the community and living as independently as possible are among the most important values and goals for individuals served by JCDS. However, achieving this is not an easy task. Struggles with obtaining housing that are often faced by individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities include housing affordability, accessibility and availability. Nationally, only 16% of programs similar to JCDS residential services have individuals that rent directly from their landlord. Here at JCDS our partnership with the non-profit group-Friends of JCDS-as well as individual landlords within Johnson County, has assisted individuals in obtaining accessible and affordable housing in neighborhoods across Johnson County.
